This year FOOCE applied for a “netCorps Technology Grant for Environmental Organizations” to support our desire to use technology to communicate effectively as an executive and to reach our extended membership who live in a variety of geographical locations.

Unfortunately, we were not successful with our netCorps application. However, the organization said our application for technology assistance had merit and invited us to apply again next summer.

FOOCE will host a number of educational sessions for the membership and pubic in the summer of 2009. Based on membership input, we are considering the following presenters: bears, flora and fauna, phragmites (common reed), astronomy, piping plovers, species at risk and birding and community stewardship. Friends of Oliphant Coastal Environments brought information directly to Oliphant Camper’s Association members in May 2008. “Beach Conservation: Environmental Impacts of Vehicles on Lake Huron’s Beach and Dune Systems” and “Common Reed (Phragmites australis)” factsheet, were included in the Oliphant Camper’s Spring 2008 Newsletter mailout. This was made possible by The Oliphant Campers’ Association, Freshwater Futures and The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation.

FOOCE will undertake beach cleanups of the Sandy Bay Beach, South Beach (Oliphant government dock area) and Lonely Island Beach in the fall of 2008. We invite community members, cottagers and beach users to join us. Please watch for further information regarding dates and time on this website.
