Friends of Oliphant Coastal Environments

Friends of Oliphant Coastal Environments, organized in 2007, is a nonprofit group of volunteers.

Volunteers use their talents, time and energy to ensure that the coastal environments of the Oliphant community are preserved so they will be here for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.

Friends of Oliphant Coastal Environments seek to preserve the unique fen, alvar and beach/grassland ecosystems of the Oliphant mainland community and adjacent Fishing Islands.

Friends of Oliphant Coastal Environments value:

• crystal clean water and healthy beaches
• the natural beauty of our area
• protection of our unique coastal environments
• the creation and use of collaborative planning in our area
• blending the needs of people to access shorelines for recreational purposes and to access property, with sensitive area protection
• respect for private property

• to preserve, protect, enhance and improve the fen, alvar and beach/grassland ecosystems of the Oliphant coastline
• to encourage and foster an understanding and awareness of our unique ecosystems within our local and extended Oliphant community by offering public meetings, special interest speakers, and distribution of information on issues related to preserving, improving and enhancing our environment
• to foster a deep appreciation and preservation of Oliphant coastal environments in the future, by engaging youth and developing partnerships with organizations and institutions that will encourage the stewardship of these environments and others they encounter in the years to come
